Every month
Insha'Allah, we will introduce a new topic on this page. We welcome
your comments, questions and insight in regards to each topic
presented. Our activities at YMR gatherings will also be centered
on the current month's topic.
For this month we will be concentrating on the topic of intentions.
INTENTIONS
Our
prophet (peace and blessings of Allah (SWT) be on him) said in
a very strong Hadith: “Deeds are not but their intentions,
and every person will be judged by his/her intentions.”
In another Hadith, the prophet (peace and blessings of Allah (SWT)
be on him) said that "so many people will fast and get no
reward for their fasting, because they did not do it for the right
reasons."
These Hadith are very important and should serve as motivation
for us to check and be aware of why we do things. It is not enough
to do what is right and abstain from what is wrong. It is critical
to perform all of our deeds with the right intention. A girl who
wears big loose clothing only because she is embarrassed for people
to see how overweight she is, will not receive reward for her
"modesty" in wearing non-revealing clothes. Someone
who wears hijeb only because her father commands her to and she
is wearing it to please him or appease him, will also not receive
reward for wearing her hijeb. A man who goes to the mosque to
pray every prayer right on time everyday will not receive reward
for it if he is only going there so others will see him and think
he is pious. Even if you pay charity it will not benefit you in
the least if you have done it only so people will say you are
generous or have a kind heart. It will only count if you do it
for the Pleasure of Allah (SWT) in seeking His Reward.
The advice to every brother and sister is to take the time before
doing anything to make sure you are doing it with the right intention.
Your intention in every action should always be to seek the Pleasure
and Reward of Allah (SWT) because with Allah (SWT) is the Best
of Rewards.
